The Power of Oats. Bottled.

The Runner's Guide to NYC: Oatworks Approved!

Our Founder and CEO, David Peters, is an avid runner; give him a pair of kicks and a place to go, and he'll be gone before you can spell out Oatworks. The only problem is that places to go on a solid run in New York, let alone any city, can be quite the feat itself.

That's why, in belated-honor of this year's National Running Day, we'd like to pass on a short and sweet list of The 6 Best Running Routes in New York City. We know on days that the couch seems a little more comfortable than usual, it can be hard to give an effort to be active, so hopefully this helps ease the pain.

Go out, and enjoy scenic paths like every New Yorker's staple route, The Hudson River Run. Whether you take the long or short version, it doesn't matter. All that matters is that you stay active, and remain powered by your favorite Oatworks oat-powered fruit smoothie!

Have other routes in mind that we didn't mention? Let us know in the comments below!

Oatworks Pumps Up Cyclists Across America

It all started when six fraternity brothers biked from Cali to VA. Inspired by WKU sophomore Tyler Jury’s loss of his grandfather to Alzheimer's disease, the brothers used their cross-country ride to raise $56,000 for Alzheimer's research. The dedicated team has blossomed into Bike4Alz.

Now, while keeping #NationalBikeMonth in mind, Bike4Alz rides for their third and longest trip yet this May. This time, they’ll have the support of an additional ten riders, two supporting drivers, and Oatworks!

Bike4Alz will be making the journey from Oceanside, CA to Washington, D.C. all under two months’ time, and of course, we will be right there to help! Oatworks will be fueling the riders with our smoothies throughout the endeavor, as well as providing support and encouragement.

Also in light of National Bike Month, we will be teaming up with our friends at JackRabbit Sports and Cyc Fitness to offer you the Ultimate Joy Ride package! Click here to enter for a chance to win.

Celiac Awareness Month: Oatworks Has You in Mind!

This past May was Celiac Awareness Month, which turned our attention to the estimated 1 in 133 Americans who are affected by autoimmune intolerance to gluten. This intolerance severely limits the diet options for those who are affected. Having Celiac also makes healthy eating much more complicated. Fortunately, as researchers and scientists learn more, those suffering from Celiac are able to avoid consuming gluten much easier than before.

Every bottle of Oatworks is made with those who suffer from Celiac in mind. Besides being free of animal products, GMOs and added sugar, Oatworks is certified gluten-free, making it a smart choice not just for those who suffer from Celiac, but for every body!

We strive to make Oatworks a great healthy snack, to-go meal, or even a great pick-me-up for whenever you are looking for a natural boost to get through the day. So go ahead and grab a bottle, uncap it, and bring on the goodness.

Be sure to learn more about Oatworks, or send us a shout-out, via FacebookTwitter or Instagram.

Spotted On: Losing in the City

Health coach Cassandre recapped the A Healthy U conference, where attendees discovered Oatworks and other components of healthy living. She shares the excitement on her blog, Losing in The City:

The day started at 8:30am for registration and breakfast. Thanks to the folks at Oatworks we had a breakfast of fruits, granola bar and a variety of Oatworks beverages. Nellie opened up the day and welcomed everyone and gave everybody a snap shot of what to expect of the day.

The first panel discussion was led by Kimberly, the session was themed “It’s All Connected!” The Importance of the mind, body and soul connection when it comes to getting fit. We all know that when it comes to getting fit, the mind sometimes is the hardest part to getting started.

What Can the Superfruit of the Moment do for Your Body?

pom.jpg

Everyone knows fruits and vegetables are essential components to healthy diets. They contain tons of vitamins, nutrients and fiber--some of which we can’t ingest through any other food! But did you know that specific fruits and veggies can have more specialized positive effects on your body’s most precious organs?
A recent study published in the medical journal Atherosclerosis provided exciting evidence that the humble pomegranate may prevent and even reverse one of the most common and most devastating coronary diseases--atherosclerosis, or, the thickening and hardening of arteries caused by excessive fat intake. With the CDC reporting that heart disease is the number one killer for both men and women in America annually, with about 600,000 annual deaths, this promising research arrives not a moment too soon.
How did pomegranates become heroes against the United State’s #1 most deadly disease? Scientists added pomegranate extract to the drinking water given to lab mice with genetic susceptibility for coronary blockages for two weeks, and discovered that the mice enjoyed reduced severity and occurrence of artery-clogging plaques by the end of the trial. Not only were their cardiovascular systems healthier, but the mice also displayed reduced levels of oxidative stress, reduced cardiac inflammation, and much more.

Amazing, no? The scientists concluded that it’s possible our ancestors included pomegranates as part of their regular diet, and as we evolved over time and ate less of the fruit, our organs suffered negative feedback. The high levels of vitamin C found in the fruit don’t hurt, either.
So—wonder-fruit or latest fad fruit? Regardless, it’s obvious that pomegranates are great for us and taste great to us. So why not throw some extra pom-goodness into your diet? When you swig a nutrition-packed, tasty, hunger-zapping bottle of Pomegranate Blueberry Oatworks, you’re doing your whole body a big favor. Combining the amazing cardiovascular benefits of real pomegranate juice with the heart-healthy fiber found in oats, Oatworks delivers a one-two punch of cardio care.
So, will you be upping your pomegranate game anytime soon? How will you integrate it into your daily health regime? Let us know in the comments, and when you're ready to explore the wonders of Oatworks Pomegranate Blueberry, find a bottle here.

Ben, from BeverageDaily.com, gives us his thoughts on Oatworks:

Surprisingly refreshing, with a berry burst on the pallet - it contains apple, pear and pomegranate juices from concentrate, as well as raspberry and blueberry purees. The drink has a velvety smoothness due to the oat soluble fiber content, but as a juice based product is relatively high in sugar, with 170/355ml. That said, there is no added sugar, and only natural flavors and colors are used.

Stacey, blogger of Stacey's Reviews, shares why she loves Oatworks:

To my surprise I didn't taste the oats at all nor did i feel any in my mouth when i drink them. If the bottle wouldn't have said there was oats in it i honestly wouldn't have known. These smoothies are very delicious! Whats so great about them is that they have enough oats for two bowls of oatmeal in each bottle, That is amazing It's great for people like me that do not care for oatmeal i don't eat it. So this smoothie is great to get my oats in my body that i need. I drank one for breakfast and it really curved my appetite it kept me full and satisfied till lunch time.

I’ve been a big smoothie lover these days, while cleansing I’ve had one in place of breakfast everyday and it really boosts my energy in the mornings. The Oat Works smoothie is 100% juice packed with blueberries, pomegranates, and oats to give you a sustained energy. I loved it!

Katie, from Vegan Noms, reviews the recent Vegan Cuts box (which had Oatworks in it) and shares why she loves Oatworks:

This Oat Works Pomegranate Blueberry Smoothie was a pleasant surprise. Usually I am pretty cautious when it comes to pom-flavored products due to the tartness factor, but this was just the right balance of sweet and tart. The texture was perfect, as well - not too watery and not too thick. Very yum!

A Helping Hand: Oatworks Partners with City Harvest

Oatworks is proud to partner with local non-profit City Harvest for the annual Feed the Kids food drive. Oatworks will be assisting with food collection in the drive to provide city children with much-needed summer nutrition. An official release to PRNewswire explains the benefit:

During the summer vacation months, one in four New York City children may face hunger in the absence of school lunches. City Harvest’s annual drive aims to fill that gap by collecting and distributing food to pantries and soup kitchens throughout the summer. Last year, the drive amassed 150,000 pounds of food–enough to feed more than 1,600 families for an entire summer.

In the business of filling people up with superfoods designed to do bodies good, Oatworks couldn’t be a more fitting participant in the drive. Packed with beta glucan, a naturally occurring soluble fiber considered to be the healthiest part of the oat, Oatworks oat and fruit smoothies are a perfect source of energy and nutrients for anyone needing a little food rescue.

David Peters, Founder and CEO of Oatworks, said, “We are very proud to be partnering with City Harvest in their 2014 Feed the Kids food drive. Oatworks is on a mission to bring healthier beverages to the residents of NYC.”

Jessica, blogger of Sassy Girl Fitness, shares why she loves Oatworks:

Since initially discovering Oatworks, I have tried all three flavors, though the Strawberry Banana is my favorite. Regardless of which flavor I have chosen to drink, the end result is the same. A natural energy boost that is sustainable. I drink one of these prior to teaching my 3 nearly back to back barre classes. To date, oatworks hasn't failed me, I have the energy needed to get through all three classes without any sluggishness caused by overexertion.

I received one of each flavor for this review. I will admit, I was shocked at how good they actually were. This may be one of my new breakfast drinks in the morning!

Peaches (fresh, juicy, delectable), mangoes (tropical, bright, sweet) and oats blended (whirrrr) into one surprisingly smooth (lump-free) experience.

I can taste the peach overall. This is a great flavor and perfect AM wake me up drink.

Nicole, a blogger who compiles the best money-makers and money-savers for you, gives her views on Oatworks smoothies and finds them super filling and yummy:

Drinking a fruit flavored oatmeal smoothie sounded strange but I am always willing to try things once! Plus I liked the ingredients of this and the idea of a super portable breakfast or snack like this appeals to me so much more now with 3 babies! I thought the portion size of these drinks was generous and the consistency of the drink was great.  They were really filling, I had them 3 days in a row for breakfast and didn’t even think about lunch until much later! This for me is the mark of a good breakfast as sometimes I don’t have the time to eat again just a few hours after breakfast.  My favorite was the strawberry banana but I did like all of the flavors.
